Lab 1: Three Interesting Maps

This first map, taken from san-fernando-valley-ca-real-estate.com, details the various freeways and main thoroughfares in the San Fernando Valley. I hail from Granada Hills, located on the northern border of The Valley , just about where the 405, 118, and 5 freeways converge. Needless to say, I have had my fair share of traffic headache when driving to school, driving to work, or driving anywhere for that matter.

This second map, taken from taken from science.smith.edu, illustrates the major power plants in the United States, discerning between the different heat sources of gas, coal, oil, hydroelectric, and nuclear. Being a mechanical engineering undergraduate student, I am very interested in the different methods of power generation throughout the country, and am looking forward to the day when cleaner hydroelectric and nuclear technologies will phase out dirty coal and oil.

This last map, taken from insidesocal.com, is simply a map of a poll conducted by ESPN.com in the United States. I am very pleased to say that only 21% of the entire nation believe that the new USC football coach, Lane Kiffin, will be successful. The other 79% believe that he will only be mildly successful or not successful at all. This bodes well for Rick Neuheisel and the UCLA football program!
